Vacuuming Tips
The modern vacuum cleaner is a powerful tool. Too powerful sometimes.
It is also a seemingly controversial machine with many different viewpoints on it’s use.
Most of us are unaware of the damage and premature wear that a misused vacuum actually does.
While vacuuming dust and general dirt regularly is a good idea, the way we use our beloved vacuum cleaner should be looked at carefully.
Many vacuums now have rotating brush heads which open the pile up so that more dirt can be vacuumed out.
Sounds like a great idea, but there are several caveats that we must be aware of.
Firstly, motorised brush heads are designed ONLY to be used on cut pile carpets.
That’s right. Loop pile carpets will be damaged by the cross action brushing over the yarn, leading to tearing of the yarn, which causes fibres to lose strength and this in turn causes a fluffy and matted appearance- effectively shortening the life of the carpet.
This applies to rugs also.
Depending on the material and construction of the rug, there are specific methods for each- rugs made with certain methods can be seriously damaged by using a rotating brush head. Pile can be loosened, or even pulled out completely.
Rugs don’t need harsh vacuuming- the best method is a plain vacuum head, with gentle motions across the pile to lift and remove any dust and dirt. No vigorous action required.
Reversing the rug to vacuum the underside is also advised to remove any sand or hidden debris.

Remember before our modern times, there were no vacuum cleaners and many of those rugs still exist today.

Handmade in India by cottage industry expert weavers, everything is hand made, giving each item an individual character as no two are ever exactly the same. There are limited stocks of each but we do have many sizes up to 240x340cm, including circles and ovals in different colour combinations.

Not all items are in our shop, but in our Silverdale warehouse, so if you are looking for these we may be able to see you in our warehouse (at a mutually agreeable time other than our shop hours) to show you these items there. We have a small selection in our shop to view and can get you the required size if available.

Flat Woven Jute
Natural jute products come in many shapes and sizes- and qualities.
We have different texture jute products, but the quality remains consistent through our ranges- we only source materials made from the highest quality, and made by manufacturers who adhere to ethical practices when making our products for us.
High quality jute means minimal shedding and yarn breakage- important for longevity of the product.
Natural products such as jute will gain a ‘patina’ over time, with the colours adapting to surrounding light influences.
This is normal and expected of all natural products, regardless of quality and adds a character to each piece.
This particular woven jute product comes in four colours and sizes up to 160x230cm including an 80x300cm size.

Since 1986, RugWorld has been a trusted and respected household name in quality rugs throughout New Zealand.
We now have a new RugWorld physical shop (tap for details) where you can touch and see products, and ask questions before purchasing- or just come for a visit and work through some ideas.
RugWorld still exists as it always has- we are the same trusted family owned company, preparing for our next chapter.
Our new RugWorld showroom- we have most item designs in one or two sizes, with the balance of sizes available in our warehouse which is 5 mins away in Silverdale industrial area- this actually works well and normally we can get the item in to the store the next day- or if urgent we can have it same day after closing hours.
